History
In 1993 a local
youth group led by George Alcaidinho contacted
Noel and Cecile Rozenveld about organizing a
talent variety show. Noel and Cecile, with the
assistance of Nicki Clark, Don Goodale,
Charlene Pratt and Dominic Haasen, wrote Radio
Daze, and the show was on.
The production
was such a success that the idea of continuing
this type of theatre on an annual basis was
presented to a larger group of local
individuals. And so, a meeting took place at
the home of Martin and Rita Van Geffen. Our
local Community Television company, Rogers
Cable 12, provided motivation by donating a
grant of $500.00 annually for 5 years to
assist in startup funding, and the Strathroy
Community Players was born.
Incorporation
In 1997, the
Players incorporated to increase their
exposure in the community as a legitimate
operating body. This was to provide a means of
more exposure to the community in general and
to the municipality specifically as a
legitimate operating body. Members of the
group drafted a constitution and set of
bylaws. On March 1, 1998, the first general
membership meeting was held, when the
constitution and bylaws were adopted by those
in attendance. As well, the first board of
directors was elected.
